Teatime at The Willard

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

Time for tea!!  That's just what I was saying on Sunday!  I am a member of two tea clubs and have had the opportunity to enjoy teatime at a variety of tea rooms and hotels.  As many of you know, at our tea room we made everything homemade…right down to my mom's delicious lemon curd and my Devon cream, so I must admit that I do have "high expectations" when taking tea.  What can I say?!…Let's be honest, when you have enjoyed the goodies  my mom and granny made, well, there's a lot to live up to!  And, I'm not too shabby when it comes to creating some tealightful treats myself!  The Willard Hotel in Washington DC is a beautiful place to enjoy a luxurious teatime so I was tealighted when my friend Janice invited me to join her and a couple of other friends for tea.

The Willard is a historical hotel that is simply beautiful!  We enjoyed "Afternoon Tea in Peacock Alley".  Upon entering the hotel you go up a few steps to Peacock Alley which is an exquisite hallway (alley) filled with comfy sofas, chairs, and tables just perfect for enjoying a relaxing teatime.  As the hotel's website states, this is…"one of Washington's prime locations to 'stroll, strut, see, and be seen' for nearly a century.".

A harpist played an assortment of sweet melodies during our teatime making it all the more relaxing!  After taking a few moments to look over the tea menu we made our selections and awaited the arrival of our tealightful blend!  I chose "wild blackberry" and loved it…of course, I added a bit o' cream and a lump of sugar!  Then, came the much anticipated delivery of our tea trays!

We enjoyed cinnamon spice scones and creme scones, and the lemon curd and Devon cream just added the perfect touch to these yummy treats.  Delicate finger sandwiches filled one tray and included savories such as roasted beef tenderloin, cucumber, and egg salad to name a few.

As you can see, the table was decorated with a beautiful setting of white and gold china, and we each enjoyed a pot of our chosen tea.  Sweet treats filled the dessert plate so we enjoyed yummy chocolate mousse squares, raspberry Florentines, and several other goodies.

It was a sweet afternoon of spending time with old friends, meeting new ones, and just enjoying the simple things in life!  Taking time for tea is something that really allows you to relax a bit, and I hope you will find time to work this sweet ritual into your life.  Teatime doesn't have to be fancy either, and it can be just as much fun with one person or many!  Invite a friend or a few friends over to your house for a cuppa tea, sweet conversation, and a few yummy treats, and I promise you will feel refreshed afterward.  Sometimes we all need a little "down time"!

Oh, I just had a tealightful idea!!  I think I need to have a tea party on my blog one day!  Would you like to join me for TEA?  I hope so!  Stay tuned…I'll have to do a bit of planning and such, but I think I will share a teatime with you right here!  Then, you might want to try it at your house!

Hope your teacup runneth over with good things today!
