Loosey Goosey Whimsical Dress Painting

Sometimes you’ve just got to get a little messy…pull out snippets of this and that…toss lots of color about, and see what happens!

That’s just what Sue Pelletier’s “Loose Raw Paintings” class encouraged me to do. I have always loved her whimsical and free style and decided to take her class.

Just for practice, I pulled out one of my pieces of cardboard…yes, I can hardly throw good boxes in the trash! At our house they are recycled for art! Many pieces of a box can serve as the perfect “canvas” for new artwork and are just great for testing out new ideas.

I used some of my favorite colors of paint, modeling paste, napkins, burlap, vintage sewing patterns, and of course, I pulled out Chinese brushes and ink!

I was going to play around with the background by filling it in with various paint colors and making it messy and distressed looking. However, someone loved the piece just as it was so this cute dress now has a forever home. I love how the texture showed up though so it’s perfect as a print, too. You can find it in my shoppe!

I am always trying to push myself more and more in the “letting go” process. I like to think of it as artsy growth! It truly is because I do have a tendency to want to try to get things “just right” and will sometimes delay on finishing a project simply because I just can’t make up my mind about where I want to go with it. I am really trying to remind myself that I can create the same piece on a variety of materials and even try several different mediums if I want to. That’s right…just create…let it flow…don’t try to tell your mind just how the work needs to turn out. I am finding that by letting go I have the sweetest and most colorful surprises to bloom right on my canvas…even if it’s cardboard!

Stay tuned for more “Loosey/Lucy Goosey” art ~ that’s what I’m calling my “letting go/being free” art!  And, the story of why I’m adding in the “Lucy” part!  🙂
